A few weeks ago I ran into a new graduate at an event and he asked me a loaded question.

He asked:

“What do you think the world will look like in 2020?”

To suggest that I could have gone on for days about this topic would be an understatement. Instead of spending hours talking about the future of virtual reality, climate change, the political landscape, media and everything under the sun – I focused on mobile.

I pointed to a simple reality:

In 2020, more than 5 billion people in the world will be connected through a smartphone.

That’s huge.

And it’s going to have a huge impact on the way we live our lives, we build relationships, we do business and we communicate with people from all over the world. Take a look at this stat from Cisco that I came across while scrolling through Twitter earlier this month:

11.6 Billion connections.

That’s massive.

That’s the future.

And that’s why we’re so excited about what the next few years are going to bring to our industry and the world around us. The growth and success of mobile phones in today’s world is an indication of where the future is going. It’s an indication that the world wants to be more connected and that the future is mobile.

We get so excited about this stuff that we talk about it during our lunch breaks and even after work. To show you why we’re so excited about the future, we’ve put together a presentation that highlights what we think the future will look like when more 5BN people have smart phones.

The figures & predictions in this deck are backed by research and discussions we’ve had with others in the industry and within our offices. Check it out and let us know what you think:
