A New Look for a New Approach to Journalism
MindSea worked closely with Postmedia to plan and launch an update to their Android and iOS apps, as part of a larger redesign of all of the Edmonton Journal’s products. The apps, newspaper and website all have a new look and an increased focus on local news.
The new homepage called EJ Now will focus on live, local storytelling with content formatted for the small screen and aimed at readers on the move.
The EJ Now screen is a curated stream of local news, business, sports and arts updated from 6 a.m. to midnight, focusing on the stories people are talking about and the events they need to know about now.
Get the day started with the weather forecast and a digest of top news stories called Breakfast Briefing. Get your mouth watering with our daily food news, Noon Nosh. Alerts make your pocket buzz with only the most important news.
There are also big stories from outside of Edmonton, and longer reads in the evening and on the weekend.
All the traditional news is still available with sections for national and international news, business, sports, arts, life and opinion.
Newly designed UI:
The newly designed user interface provides users with easier navigation, better presentation of content and an overall better reading experience.
The Edmonton Journal Apple Watch app provides breaking news notifications to keep you updated with the latest news throughout the day. Users can scroll through the latest headlines on the watch or read the full story on their iPhone.
Location Based Offers:
We’ve added an opt-in service that can send notifications if there are any special offers or promotions nearby.
Thanks to the Postmedia team for bringing us in as their partner on this project.
